Hubungan antara kebiasaan konsumsi makanan manis dengan karies gigi anak usia sekolah (The relation between habitual consumption of sweet foods with tooth caries of school age children)
Abstract
Background: Generally, children really like sweet foods especially chocolate, candy, and cookies, but unfortunately their awareness to always maintain oral hygiene is still lacking. Therefore, tooth caries is often found in school age children. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the relation between habitual consumption of sweet foods with tooth caries in sixth grade students of SDNKemanggisan 06 West Jakarta. Method: The research sample consist of 40 respondents. Data were collected using questionnaire and analyzed with Chi-Square statistical test. Result: The results of this study showed 55% of respondents have habitual consumption of sweet foods with high category and 77,5% of respondents suffer from tooth caries. Based on Chi-Square statistical test result, ρ = 0,032 (< 0,05) was found, it means that there is a relation between habitual consumption of sweet foods with tooth caries in respondents. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study was that sweet foods can cause tooth caries, therefore, the habit of maintaining the dental hygiene and health needs to be instilled from an early age so that the number of tooth caries can be reduced
