Perbedaan khasiat anti jamur antara ekstrak etanol daun Kersen (Muntingia calabura L.) dengan nistatin terhadap pertumbuhan Candida albicans (The comparison of antifungal effect of Muntingia calabura L. leaf ethanol extract toward growth Candida albicans)

Abstract

Background: Candida albicans (C. albicans) is a normal flora in oral that can cause infection namely oral candidiasis. One-way to control the infection of oral candidiasis is giving antifungal material. Muntingia calabura L. leaf ethanol extract contains flavonoids, tanins and saponins which are to own antifungi capability. Purpose: To comparison ethanol extract of Muntingia calabura L and nistatin toward the growth of C. albicans. Methods: The method used well diffusion. Antifungal ability shown of the inhibition zone around the well hole. Total samples were 24 samples divided into 3 groups, treatment, that is Muntingia calabura L. leaf ethanol extract 50% consentrate, nistatin (positive control), and sterile aquades (negative control). The results was tested by the statistical non parametric Kruskal-wallis and Mann-Whitney. Results and Conclusion: The 50% Muntingia calabura L leaf ethanol extract has similar potency with nistatin in inhibited growth C. albicans.
